Trends in Twenty Fourteen

“Great rooms beckon with their soulfulness and distinct personalities.”

            – Mary McDonald: Interior Designer

Whether it be in a residential or commercial setting, interior design is an art. It takes a particular kind of skill set for an individual to create a feeling within a room. Creating a space in which every texture, color, detail and piece of furniture come together is not an easy feat, especially when design trends continuously change. Design within the hospitality industry tends to change as the needs of each guest does. This day in age, “going green” is becoming more of a necessity rather than a fad, and many hotels are taking that into account with their design and decor. Along with that, numerous other interior design trends have made their way to the top of the list in 2014.

Transforming Lobbies into Multi-use Spaces

Transforming a hotel lobby into a space where both business personnel and leisurely travelers can coincide is extremely important. Technology has taken over much of our daily lives, so an abundance of outlets available for peoples’ cell phones and laptops is also essential. The lobby of a hotel should be a space where both casual and formal talks can take place. Welcoming decor such as walls made of natural materials, large chandeliers and indoor waterfalls are sure to attract people to the room, whatever they desire to use it for.

Re-vamping and Re-designing Hotel Guest Rooms

In today’s world, guests expect their hotel rooms to feel inviting. After a long day of traveling, sight-seeing or attending various work functions, a guest wants to walk into the room they’ve paid good money for and feel welcomed and relaxed. Comfy couches, plush beds and interesting T.V. panels are just a few elements that designers use to accomplish this task.

Merging Indoor and Outdoor Elements

Not only are there so many ways for a hotel to “Go Green” (i.e. using electronic water faucets, placing recycling bins in each guest room and using natural building materials), but there are so many opportunities for the use of creative “Green-themed” design elements as well. Many hotels now incorporate many elements of nature within their design, whether it be in small or large ways.
